Caleb is a bartender whose charm and good looks see him through life. Val, the eldest, is a high-powered attorney who hides the fact that he can perform parlor tricks with his mind.

The brothers’ lives are changed forever when they receive a belated inheritance from their father: a staff with a mysterious stone on top, a pair of rogue’s bracers, and a sword that Will can barely lift. Searching for an explanation, it is not until a strange key whisks the brothers across time and space, into a terrifying version of New Orleans ruled by wizards, that the brothers accept the truth and undergo a perilous journey home. With the help of an alluring but deadly adventuress, they must break into the keep of a sorcerer known for his love of diabolical games, find a trio of enchanted talismans, and somehow defeat an evil wizard who can raise legions of the undead to do his bidding.

It seems the brothers have found their adventure. But will they live to tell the tale?

Collection of Essays:

Follow one man as he chronicles his trials with life and love, work and women, luck and loss through this collection of stories and prose.

Composed of a collection of essays, A Boy from the Chesapeake delivers a raw and honest insight into the working of one man’s mind as he navigates his way through life, self discovery, and an all-encompassing instinct to love. As a boy on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, readers are given first hand accounts of the narrator’s awakening to the existence of love and lust. As he continues to grow and mature, men and women alike will relate to his desire for acceptance and companionship. Each account of his various relationships, with women, friends, family, and coworkers, give further insights into who this man is and just what it is that makes him tick. After reading these stories, perhaps women will know a little more about men - and men will know a little more about themselves.

Sci-Fi Thriller:

What if, as a child, you could move the world with your mind? Think of the possibilities. But what if you couldn’t control it, and buildings toppled in your sleep? Think of the consequences.

Ethan and Tilly Wolfe are special. It’s a cruel, devastating kind of special that causes death and destruction in equal measure. Nobody is safe. Not even those who love them.

Ethan is the older sibling, his telekinetic gift powerful but controllable. But Tilly is young, emotionally fragile and unable to stop the physical and mental damage she unleashes on other people with barely a thought.

And all it takes is a thought.

Pursued by the military, shunned by the authorities and running for their lives, this is the story of a medical experiment gone hideously wrong, and the lives of the two children trying to put it right.

Horror:

Alfred, a washed-up author plagued by failures can’t believe his luck when his father in-law Frank provides him with a chance that he direly craved for:

Seven days alone in an isolated Motel with the task of finishing his upcoming book!

But little does he know about the Motel’s unsavory history. Hidden in the corpse of trees and about 400 miles away from his home, it is a two-storey facade located in the dark forest of Skiddaw. With no WI-FI, poor signals and weird set of rules, the dark atmosphere soon turns his seemingly idyllic trip to a living nightmare. Apart from the usual creaks, groans and moans of the motel, he soon finds himself face to face with an entity. An urban legend that is lurking in the woods long before the motel found its existing foundations.

The Motel’s dark and haunting history quickly becomes tangled with Alfred’s life as he frantically searches for answers. Barry, the caretaker is hiding something. But what is it? Is there someone else living in the motel besides him? Or is caretaker not what he seemingly appears?

Alfred quickly begins to lose his tenuous grip on reality as he sinks further and further into an intricately designed game of deceit and lies that might put his life in danger! Or is he a threat to himself and everybody around him?

A gripping- intense psychological horror with a twist ending!

Paranormal Mystery:

In an attempt to find her missing brother, 22-year-old Lily goes undercover to a criminals’ lair. Every federal agent who went undercover to bring down Pharaoh – the criminal boss – has gone missing, and Lily’s big brother is one of them. The Director of the FBI knows possible reasons for that – Pharaoh and his closest friends have supernatural powers. He knows only their nicknames and a list of their abilities: telepathy, supermemory, healing, clairvoyance, etc. To be able to save her brother, Lily has to match extra-abilities with Pharaoh’s henchman, drag out their real names and, what’s harder, find out who Pharaoh is and what superpowers he has. The rumor is that he can kill with a simple glance, so if he learns who Lily is, a quick death would be the best option she would have…

When death is the best option, survival is no longer enough… With a growing realization that their continued existence bestows upon them a debt to humanity, the survivors look to create a cure for the insanity that has brought civilization to its knees. Tensions amongst the vampires are escalating, jeopardizing the very existence of the clan itself. A battle for supremacy seems inevitable and their future is in the balance. How far will Farzin go to achieve his aims - domination of the vampires and humans alike? And how terrible will his vengeance be against any who stand in his path?   Antony

Author Bio: “Once Bitten, Twice Die” is the debut novel from Antony J. Stanton. The book is the first of ‘The Blood of the Infected’ series, in the ‘post-apocalyptic action thriller’ genre. Stanton was born in London in 1970. Even as a child he always dreamed of becoming a published author, and he started to write a book. But, having watched the film ‘Top Gun,’ he was swayed into a becoming a military pilot. After no more than a glancing blow of a career in the British Royal Air Force he decided that his long term future lay elsewhere and he became a commercial pilot and remains thus to this day. Hence much of this trilogy was written all around the world, generally at unsociable times when jet-lag meant that normal people were asleep. During a holiday with three friends, a bet was made amongst them. Each had a task to fulfil within the year – Stanton’s was to write a book. A little late, but five years on and his challenge has been completed. Three times. His period spent in the RAF helped him write the military survival aspects of this book, and a kidnapping incident in Kazakhstan and shooting in Ghana, amongst other ‘adventures’, provided him with a dark well of experience to draw from. Life is, after all, one big adventure. A combination of the aforementioned, along with his love of the darker sides of literature, and the results are this novel and the next two in the trilogy. And all it took was the impetus of a friendly challenge to spur him on to his creative dream… He still lives in South London and is very much looking forward to watching his friend fulfilling his part of the challenge: demonstrating his (not-so) newly acquired break-dancing skills, surely a sight to behold.

The Reviewer #ShortReadsSaturdays (REVIEW)

The Reviewer

Author: MK Alexander
Category: Short Story, Revenge Thriller, Dark Comedy
Suitable for: 12+
My Rating: 5 Stars
Format Read for Review: Kindle
Pages: 14

Description: This is a short story about an indie-author driven mad by a negative review from a villainous reviewer.

In Short: If you enjoy short stories and revenge thriller type genres you should give this book a read. It is exciting yet suspenseful, and witty yet dark.

Pros: This short story is very well written and fast and fun to read. I would definitely read more by this author. Even though it is short there is a lot of character development for our "protagonist" who is a struggling author. We get to know him through watching his daily life and struggle to promote his books. He is a very sympathetic character and I felt for him when the reviewer appeared and things escalated. The story is thought provoking. The ending even left me wondering, so I translated the two Ukrainian words and was pretty shocked! This short story had a killer ending. The author was really driven mad!

Cons: I have no notable issues with this book.

Parent's Guide: Mostly clean. This story contains themes of blackmail and violence. No gore or extended graphic scenes. No swearing or sex.

Translations I found for the ending:
Shcho: What?
Nemaye: No

Staring Into Darkness (REVIEW)

Staring Into Darkness

Author: C. L. Clark
Category: Horror Short Stories, Dark Short Stories, Anthology
Suitable for: Teens+
My Rating: 4.5 Stars
Format Read for Review: Kindle
Pages: 90

Description: This is a collection of short stories based on fears and the darker sides of humanity. See into the minds of psychopaths and the victims of the various evils that lurk in the dark.

In Short: If you love horror, you will love this collection. Quick, fun, scary reads covering various fears and phobias. This book features a variety of scary genres, for example: horror, thriller, psychological, and suspense. Absolutely perfect for Halloween, and campfire stories. The stories are short enough that they would make a fun group activity and most are safe for younger audiences (assuming they don't mind being scared).

Pros: These stories are really entertaining and some are downright scary! Without giving away any spoilers I'll say the one with the guy in the full body cast was probably the scariest for me. I was freaking out yelling at him to make better life choices. But did he listen? You'll have to read it to find out. The yard sale one was amusing but I'll think twice about going to yard sales now. I really loved the gravity one, it reminded me of something you would see on the Twilight Zone, it was really trippy. That short was also a great story for all ages. The stories are well written and you don't always know how they are going to end. Even though they are short some are real nail biters full of suspense.

Cons: The segmented story 'She and He and What Must Be' I would have preferred to read continuously, I felt like one section was out of order.

Parent's Guide: Some of the short stories include: Brief sexual references, some violent topics including serial killers. Most of the stories are PG13 in my opinion, with some being more 16+.

The Ivy and the Walnut: A Faerie Tale (REVIEW)

The Ivy and the Walnut: A Faerie Tale

You can get this book for free ONLY by subscribing to Jeff Chapman's mailing list. And let me tell you, it is well worth it. He sends out very few mailers but many of them include links to freebies. You get 2 free fairy tales with your subscription so you can sample Jeff Chapman's writing.

Author:  Jeff Chapman
Category: Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Thriller, Fairy Tale, Short Story
Suitable for: Teens+
My Rating: 5 Stars
Format Read for Review: Kindle
Pages: Roughly 20 pages, short story.

Description: Mircalla envies her sister, Carmilla when Carmilla manages to steal away the object of her unrequited love. Her jealously drives her mad and her devious schemes take a dark magical twist.

In Short: This is a fun and quick read and an absolutely crazy story. It incorporates a mix of genres including historical fiction, horror, and fantasy.

Pros: This book is well written and very entertaining. Like many of Jeff Chapman's stories you know something crazy is bound to happen in the end but you never know what exactly. The plot takes surprising twists, I loved the story! Mircalla is so desperate to get the man she wants despite his lack of interest in her and his nuptials with her sister. Her desperation and creativity lead her to do outrageous things all with the goal of making him her husband.

Cons: I have no issues with this book.

Parent's Guide: Overall clean book.

You can win a book by Jeff Chapman along with a ton of other great prizes in
